Open Question: Why do a lot of countries try to claim British bands…?
I know British singers are in a league of their own but it get’s annoying after a while
The Beatles: They are all from Liverpool, England but I’ve heard Americans accuse them or copying American artists such as Buddy Holly and trying to sound American.
The Rolling Stones - Americans say that they tried to fake American accents to become popular in American but that’s probably just how they sound when they sing.
Queen -
Bee Gees - They were born in Isle of Man, England to English parents but moved to Manchester, England when they were kids and they obviously have British accents. When they were all adults they moved to Australia now most Australians I talk to say that the 3 British brothers are Australian.
AC/DC - All of the singers are from Scotland with Scottish accents (Don’t believe me? Watch interviews, were do you think they got their names from?!), there’s only one Australian drummer yet they are somehow considered Australian (Maybe because Patriotic Australians preach about how they are Australian). So what if they formed their band on Australian soil, who cares? Kylie Minogue started off in UK and lives here, she’s not British though and we don’t claim her as British either since she was born in Australia and has an Australian accent.
Amy Winehouse - Americans say that she imitates old American soul singers.
Adele - Americans also say that she copies American soul and country singers.
Duffy - Americans say that she also copying American soul singers.
Florence and the Machine - Americans also say that she is copying American style of music.
Pink Floyd - Americans say that they copied American singers.
Jessie J - Americans say she is copying American R n B singers.
Americans also say that Coldplay, Sex Pistols, The Who and other English bands try and sound English (HAHA Coldplay sound SO English, so do The Beatles, Amy Winehouse, etc… their voices are too low to sound American). If they’re not English, maybe they should stop talking our Language?
Why do Australians and Americans try and claim English singers so much when if they were born and raised in the UK to an English family and have English accents, they are ENGLISH. What if I moved to US and became a singer, would I be an American singer even though I’m born and raised in UK and have an English accent? No. The Beatles basically invented pop music, we don’t claim all American pop stars of trying to be British. Why do people try and claim British bands so much?
