Open Question: I need some careers advice please!?
So it’s come to the point in my life when I really need some direction, some ambition. I’ve realised that I’ve been coasting along for my entire studentship without much thought to my future. Well, here it is, staring me in the face. I don’t want to end up on the Jeremy Kyle show, arguing about possession of babies and claiming benefits. However, I never really knew my parents. They disappeared a long time ago. University is definitely not economically feasible. Besides, I don’t want to come out of 3-4 years of hardcore partying to find myself with a pretty useless degree and £30,000 into debt with unemployment at an all time high.
I came to think about what I really want to do with my life. So I weighed up my options, my strong and weak assets.
I realised I enjoyed maths quite a lot in my school days, particularly algebra and finding the X and stuff. Also, I recall getting a B in GCSE French, which was quite bearable, discovering foreign exotic cultures in far off lands, where the language simply sounds like gibberish to the English ear. I finally settled on the fact that I really want to travel and see the world, as I’ve never left the British Isles.
After careful consideration, I’ve decided that my goal is to become a pirate. I’d like to know if there are any particular qualifications that will help me get into a decent crew. My work experience at John Lewis will surely contribute to getting me onto a respected ship of the high seas. My final concern is if the job usually covers dental care, as I’ve noticed quite a lot of pirates with missing or blackened teeth. Thanks in advanced. Any help appreciated. ^_~
